BIO

Neil Foreman (‘96) is a pianist, singer, and composer. He pursued his artistic journey by studying at the Master of Music program. This initially led him to write instrumental music, composed from the piano. However, his love for vocals eventually led him to songwriting.

His debut album 'Fly In New Times' (July ‘23) is filled with exploration, in a quest for artistic identity. But at the same time, it is also a beautiful summary of his interests. For this album, he collaborated with Willem van der Krabben (drums), Jens Dreijer (bass), Younes Kadri (guitar), Chelsea Foreman (vocals) and David Romanello (soprano sax).

"I would describe my music as energetic and colorful, with clear audible influences from artists such as Sting, Robert Glasper, and Bill Laurance."

In addition to writing and producing his own material, Neil is also active as a pianist and musical director in theater productions. He has previously performed for Stage Entertainment, Oatmilk Studio, and Opus One productions, among others.

Teaching at Fontys School of Fine and Performing Arts is also a great passion and part of his artistic development. “I learn every day from working with this driven group. I can connect my own development to that of the students. Fortunately, I don’t have to know everything to help them, but I can coach and inspire in a way that suits me. I have always been very interested in processes.”

MUSIC

“My first album 'Fly In New Times' came in to existence because I simply started writing songs. Questions that arose were; who am I as an artist? What do I identify with? Does my music belong to a genre, or should it be something completely new?

Everything in this album has been thought about, doubted, lost sleep over, and celebrated. And I can truly say that through making intuitive choices, seeking help and inspiration from the right people, and daring to share what wasn't perfect, this album has become entirely 'mine'.

My debut album 'Fly In New Times' is filled with energy and colors in a search for artistic identity. At the same time, it's also a summary of my interests.”
